| Monday, October 18, 2004 Today was a pretty stable day for Bryce. his primary nurce, Louise, introduced herself. She is going to take good care of Bryce. Mommy talked to the social worker today and she is submitting Mommy and Daddy's names to Ronald McDonald House so that they can stay near Bryce. Mommy will be discharged tomorrow and hopefully she and Daddy will stay at Ronald McDonald House. Mommy began pumping her breastmilk today. She is doing her best to give healthy nutritious milk for Bryce. He won't be able to have any until after his surgery, but then it is the best thing for him. Grandma, Granddad, and Great-Grandma visited again today. Tuesday, October 19, 2004 Mommy was discharged from the hospital today. She and Daddy didn't have a room at RMH yet, so we planned to go home to Springfield, spend the night, then come back first thing in the morning. Today, Bryce got to meet his Great-Granny. She loved meeting him and touching him. She talked to him. He also met Aunt Mary, Uncle John, and our pastor, Reg. Grandma, Granddad, and Great-Grandma said goodbye to Bryce until later. Mommy and Daddy went by the NICU to drop off the milk Mommy had pumped and Brycie was having a hard time. Karen (Bryce's associate nurse) said that Mommy and Dady should stick close for the next hour. We went out to eat at Applebee's and were very scared that we were going to lose Brycie. Daddy called back to the NICU an hour later and the doctor said it was best if we stayed close to the hospital. We stayed at the Parkway Hotel at the hospital. By the time we got there (9:00 p.m.), Mommy was hurting from being on her feet all day long. The hotel had a wheelchair that Daddy could push Mommy in. Mommy and Daddy went over to the NICU to see Brycie. he was doing much better, but he wasn't out of the woods. Mommy and Daddy relaxed at the hotel. Wednesday, October 20, 2004 We got up and checked out of the hotel, then we went over and visited Brycie. He was doing much better today. Today, Mommy sang to Bryce. While she was pumping, Daddy got the good news that we had gotten into the RMH! We went over and got into our room. What a relief that Mommy and Daddy have a place to stay close to Bryce. The RMH has a big kitchen with lots of food. Groups come in and cook dinner for residents every night. On weekends, groups even make breakfast. Mommy and Daddy rested well tonight because they were relieved. Thursday, October 21, 2004 Bryce is doing much better today! We met with his doctors. While there is a concern, there was very good news. The good news is that Bryce's chest X-ray showed that he has a full right lung and half of his left lung! This is great news for a baby with CDH. It definitely makes his chances look better. The concern is that there is a bit of hemorrhaging in Bryce's brain. This condition is normal in preemies and the blood may just be absorbed into the bloodstream like any other bruise. If it gets any worse, however, we would have to look at draining some of the blood. Right now, it's not that bad, though. A brain ultrasound will be done on Monday to check. |
